TRULICITY (Dulaglutide Injection) -
Trulicity is the brand name for a molecule used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The generic name is Dulaglutide. It is a relatively new product and is a type of injectable therapy, but it is not insulin. It comes in the form of a disposable single use pen in either 0.75mg dose and 1.5mg dose, making it relatively safe and easy to administer.
Each course lasts for 4 weeks. Starting dose is 0.75mg unless you have previously used Ozempic/Trulicity. Your dose will be titrated up as you progress. This is a once a week injection - Ozempic's alternative.

- 0.75mg is equivalent to 0.25mg Ozempic. 1.5mg is equivalent to 0.5mg Ozempic.
- 3mg is equivalent to 1 mg of Ozempic.
- 4.5mg to is equivalent 1.5mg of Ozempic.
It is appropriate for people who have a BMI of 30 or more, as well as those who have weight-related issues. To get the most out of semaglutide, it should be used in conjunction with a nutritious diet and frequent exercise.
Licensing of the medication: The daily injection is licensed for weight loss the UK & EU under the brand name Saxenda.
The weekly injections (Trulicity and Ozempic) and the daily tablet (Rybelsus) are licensed for weight loss in the UK & EU. Semaglutide injection has been approved for a weight loss license in the UK & EU but the new brand of that licensed weight loss medication.
It is safe & legal to prescribe a medication for a purpose other than it's current license - this is called off-label prescribing. You must be aware and fully informed of this, plus all the information regarding the medication (how it works, side effects etc) before being prescribed a medication off-label.

Produced by Novo Nordisk, the medication mimics a natural hormone already found in your body (GLP-1). It works in three key ways to reduce your appetite.

It blocks a key hunger hormone telling your brain that you are hungry, whilst also helping to reduce leptin resistance (a hormone which can affect your metabolism & weight). This also helps stop the weight from coming straight back on when you stop the jab.

It slows down the gastric emptying process, meaning that your body takes longer to process food and it is fuller for longer. This means your body does not need as much intake as normal as it works off the food it has.

The medication helps to speed up your metabolism and increase fat burning by reducing glucagon & reducing insulin resistance. This promotes normal blood glucose levels, the liver metabolism of glucose and helps adipose tissue burn fat in a safe and controlled method without causing a sugar-crash. This avoids the urges for quick-fix sugary foods.
This all helps to reduce the risk of the so-called "starvation mode".
Trulicity® (Trῡ-li-si-tee) is for adults and children 10 years of age and older with type 2 diabetes used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose). Trulicity is also used in adults with type 2 diabetes to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (problems having to do with the heart and blood vessels) such as death, heart attack, or stroke in people who have heart disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.
- It is not known if TRULICITY can be used in people who have had inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). TRULICITY is not for use in people with type 1 diabetes and is not recommended for use in people with severe stomach or intestinal problems. It is not known if TRULICITY is safe and effective in children under 10 years of age.
- Trulicity is given through an injection (needle). You take it once a week by injecting it under the skin of your stomach, thigh, or upper arm.
