Sukkarto SR prolonged release tablets contain the active ingredient metformin hydrochloride. Each tablet contains 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride. Metformin belongs to a group of drugs called biguanides which are used in the treatment of diabetes. Sukkarto SR are slow-release tablets containing the active ingredient Metformin, which is a substance that effectively controls type 2 diabetes. Sukkarto SR is used for the treatment of Type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus particularly in overweight patients, where diet and exercise changes alone have not been sufficient to control it. In type 2 diabetes, there is too much sugar (glucose) in the blood because pancreas does not produce enough insulin or because it produces insulin that does not work properly. Your doctor can prescribe Sukkarto SR for you to take on its own, or in combination with other oral antidiabetic medicines, or insulin. Sukkarto SR contains Metformin, a medication used for type 2 diabetes. The main difference between taking Sukkarto SR as opposed to Metformin, is that Sukkarto SR is a slow releasing medication. For more information on the prescription medication patients should refer to the Sukkarto SR patient information leaflet.
