Oral GLP-1 Receptor Agonist for Type 2 Diabetes Management
Rybelsus is an oral prescription medication containing Semaglutide. It is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes. As a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, it works by increasing the amount of insulin your pancreas releases when your blood sugar is high and decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes.
Glycaemic Control: Helps to lower HbA1c levels when used alongside diet and exercise.
Daily Oral Therapy: Offers the benefits of a GLP-1 receptor agonist in a convenient once-daily tablet.
Cardiovascular Support: Supports metabolic health in patients with established cardiovascular disease.
The absorption of Rybelsus is highly sensitive to food and drink. To ensure effectiveness:
Timing: Take your tablet first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Water Only: Swallow the tablet whole with a small sip of plain water (no more than 120ml).
The 30-Minute Rule: Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking any other oral medications.
Integrity: Do not crush, split, or chew the tablet.
Thyroid Warning: Tell your doctor if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Pancreatitis: If you experience severe and persistent stomach pain (which may reach through to your back) with or without vomiting, stop use and seek immediate medical attention.
Not for Type 1: Rybelsus is not for use in patients with Type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Dehydration: Nausea and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration. Ensure you drink plenty of fluids, especially when first starting or increasing your dose.
Very Common: Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, and decreased appetite. These are most common during the dose-escalation phase and typically subside.
Hypoglycaemia: If used with a sulphonylurea or insulin, your risk of low blood sugar may increase. Your doctor may adjust your other medications.
Vision Changes: Inform your doctor if you notice any changes in your vision during treatment.
Active Ingredient: Semaglutide 14mg.
Absorption Enhancer: Contains SNAC (salcaprozate sodium) to help the medicine enter the bloodstream.
Storage: Store in the original blister pack to protect from light and moisture. Store below 30°C.
Important: Only remove the tablet from the blister pack immediately before taking it.
