How does Exenatide work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?

Exenatide works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas, reducing the action of glucagon and slowing the absorption of glucose from the gut. This then lowers blood sugar levels and reduces appetite.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose).

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
