Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for Menopause Management
Zumenon is a systemic Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) containing Estradiol, a form of oestrogen identical to that produced naturally by the ovaries. It is prescribed to alleviate symptoms associated with the decline of oestrogen during menopause and perimenopause, and to assist in the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fractures.
Symptom Relief: Effectively reduces vasomotor symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, and sleep disturbances.
Bone Health: Helps maintain bone density to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Urogenital Health: Eases vaginal dryness and associated discomfort.
Dosage: Take one tablet daily, ideally at the same time each day.
Administration: Swallow whole with water, with or without food.
Combination Therapy: If you still have your uterus (womb), Zumenon must be taken alongside a progestogen medication. Using oestrogen alone ("unopposed") significantly increases the risk of thickening of the womb lining and endometrial cancer.
Duration: HRT should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to manage symptoms.
Blood Clot Risk: Oral HRT slightly increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Seek medical help immediately if you experience painful leg swelling, sudden chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
Cancer Risks: Long-term use of HRT is associated with a small increase in the risk of breast cancer and, if used without progestogen in women with a uterus, endometrial cancer.
Immediate Cessation: Stop taking Zumenon and see a doctor immediately if you develop:
Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).
A significant rise in blood pressure.
A new, migraine-type headache.
Pregnancy.
Interactions: Avoid St. John’s Wort, as it can reduce the effectiveness of Zumenon and lead to breakthrough bleeding.
Side effects are most common in the first 3 months as your body adjusts:
Common (1 in 10): Breast tenderness or enlargement, headaches, nausea, and abdominal cramps.
Occasional: Breakthrough bleeding or spotting, weight changes, and mood swings.
Action: If side effects persist beyond 3 months, consult your prescriber, as your dose or HRT type may need adjustment.
Active Ingredient: Estradiol Hemihydrate 2mg.
Allergen Note: Contains Lactose Monohydrate.
Storage: Keep in a dry place below 25°C. Store in the original blister pack to protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
