Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) for Hypertension
Losartan Potassium is a prescription medication belonging to a group of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It is primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.
Hypertension Management: Used to help lower high blood pressure in adults and children aged 6 years and older.
Renal Support: Prescribed to some patients with Type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension to help manage kidney function.
Cardiac Health: Used in specific clinical scenarios to support heart function in patients with high blood pressure.
Consistency: Take your tablet at the same time each day, with or without food.
Dosage: Your doctor will determine the correct strength (25mg, 50mg, or 100mg) based on your medical needs and response to treatment.
Compliance: Do not stop taking Losartan without consulting your doctor, as your blood pressure may rise rapidly. Hypertension often has no visible symptoms, so the medication must be taken even if you feel well.
Pregnancy Warning: DO NOT USE if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Losartan can cause serious injury or death to an unborn baby if taken during the second or third trimesters. If you discover you are pregnant, stop use and contact your doctor immediately.
Potassium Levels: Avoid using salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Losartan unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as this medication can increase potassium levels in the blood.
Dizziness: You may feel dizzy, especially when first starting the medication or when your dose is increased. Move slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position.
Medical History: Inform your prescriber if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, or if you have ever experienced an allergic reaction (angioedema) to other blood pressure medications.
Most people tolerate Losartan well, but side effects can include:
Common: Dizziness, fatigue, or a drop in blood pressure when standing.
Respiratory: Occasional upper respiratory tract congestion or cough.
Serious: If you experience swelling of the face, lips, or throat (angioedema), or difficulty breathing, seek emergency medical assistance immediately.
Active Ingredient: Losartan Potassium.
Allergen Note: Contains Lactose Monohydrate. Consult your pharmacist if you have a known sugar intolerance.
Storage: Store at room temperature (20–25°C) in the original packaging to protect from moisture. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
