Imodium Dual Action Relief - 12 Tablets

Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets are a treatment for sudden, short-lived attacks of diarrhoea using the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. These tablets also include simeticone to reduce excessive gas in the stomach, helping to relieve symptoms of bloating, trapped wind and painful cramps.

What is the recommended dosage?

Always take Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. For adults over 18 years old: Swallow two tablets initially, followed by one tablet after each loose bowel movement.

For children and young adults aged 12-18 years old: Swallow one tablet initially, followed by one tablet after each loose bowel movement. Do not take more than 4 tablets in any 24 hour period. Do not take for more than 48 hours - consult a doctor if your symptoms persist for more than 48 hours.

How does loperamide hydrochloride and simeticone relieve diarrhoea?

These tablets contain 2 mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. This helps to reduce diarrhoea by slowing down your overactive bowel, helping your body to absorb fluid much more effectively. Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets also contain 125 mg of simeticone, an anti-foaming agent that works to relieve bloating and stomach cramps by breaking up the excess gas in the bowel.

What causes diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea usually happens when fluid isn’t being absorbed from the contents of your bowel, or when extra fluid leaks into your bowel, causing loose or watery stools. There are many possible causes of diarrhoea:

  • A food intolerance

  • A food allergy

  • Food poisoning

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • A viral infection, such as norovirus

  • A bacterial infection, such as E.coli

  • A reaction to a medication

  • A bowel or intestinal disease

  • Coeliac disease

Whilst unpleasant and uncomfortable, diarrhoea isn’t usually anything to worry about - it’s fairly common and improves after a couple of days in most cases.

What causes cramps, bloating and trapped wind?

Stomach infections and bowel disorders, such as IBS, can also cause bloating. This happens when excess gas builds up in your gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an uncomfortable ‘full’ feeling. Symptoms related to excess gas include:

  • A bloated stomach

  • Abdominal pain

  • Excessive flatulence or burping

  • Rumbling noises in your stomach

  • Stomach cramps

What is IBS?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition that affects the digestive system, and it is quite common. You may experience symptoms varying from stomach cramps, bloating, gas, diarrhoea and constipation. Your symptoms may come and go, last for a period of time, or you may find that certain things trigger a flare-up.

Note

Imodium Plus Comfort Tablets should be used exactly as directed on the packaging. If symptoms persist beyond 48 hours or worsen, consult a healthcare professional. Not suitable for long-term use without medical advice.
