How does trichloroacetic acid (TCA) treat warts & verrucas?

What causes warts & verrucas?

Warts and verrucas are caused by an infection called human papillomavirus (HPV) that creates an excess amount of keratin in the top layer of the skin. Keratin is a hard protein, so the extra keratin caused by HPV produces the rough, hard texture associated with warts and verrucas.
