Antibiotic Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)
Dalacin Cream is a prescription-only antibiotic containing Clindamycin Phosphate. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), a condition caused by an overgrowth of certain bacteria in the vagina. This cream works by inhibiting the growth of the bacteria responsible for the infection, helping to restore a healthy vaginal balance.
Targeted Antibiotic Action: Effectively treats the anaerobic bacteria that cause BV symptoms such as unusual odour and discharge.
Convenient Internal Application: Provided with 7 disposable applicators for a full course of treatment.
Symptom Relief: Designed to resolve irritation and abnormal discharge associated with BV.
Dosage: Use one full applicator (approximately 5g) once daily.
Timing: Administer the dose at bedtime for 7 consecutive nights, or as directed by your prescriber.
Full Course: It is essential to complete the entire 7-day course, even if your symptoms appear to improve after a few days.
Hygiene: Use a fresh applicator for every dose and dispose of it immediately after use. Wash hands before and after application.
Contraceptive Warning: This cream contains mineral oil, which can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. Do not rely on these methods of contraception during treatment or for 5 days after the final dose has been applied.
Intimate Care: Avoid using tampons, vaginal douches, or scented products during the 7-day treatment period.
Intercourse: It is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse during the treatment of a vaginal infection.
Medical History: Do not use if you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or antibiotic-associated colitis.
While generally well-tolerated, some side effects may occur:
Common: Mild vaginal itching, burning, or irritation.
Secondary Infections: Some women may develop vaginal thrush (candidiasis) following antibiotic treatment.
Serious: If you develop severe or persistent diarrhoea, stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately, as this may be a sign of a rare but serious bowel reaction.
Active Ingredient: Clindamycin Phosphate 2% w/w.
Excipients: Includes Cetostearyl Alcohol and Propylene Glycol, which may cause local skin reactions.
Storage: Store below 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
